Recording Programs in Eastern and Southern Texas

When it comes to learning audio engineering and music production, the great state of Texas includes numerous educational opportunities. Many of these opportunities are concentrated in larger metro areas like Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, but can sometimes be found in smaller towns as well. The Houston chapter of the Audio Professionals of America is pleased to provide information about colleges and trade schools in the eastern and southern parts of the state currently offering programs in audio production and recording. Be advised that every school is different, and you should research all your options carefully before deciding to enroll. Here is a partial list of the programs available:

MediaTech Institute (Irving, Houston, Austin)

Media-related trade school offering a 10-month diploma program in Recording Arts.

Audio Professionals of America Recommended

Recording Connection (Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi, Denton, Beaumont and others)

Mentor-apprentice school offering a course in Audio Engineering and Music Production. Uses a one-on-one approach to train students inside real recording studios at locations throughout Texas.

Houston Community College (Houston area)

Currently offers associate’s and certificate programs in Audio Recording Technology.

Lamar State College (Port Arthur)

Offers associate’s degrees in Commercial Music, with emphases on Sound Engineering or Performance. Also offers a certificate program in Entertainment Business.

University of Texas at Arlington (Arlington)

Currently offers bachelor’s degrees in Music Media (audio production) and Music Business through its Music Department.

Cedar Valley College (Lancaster)

Part of the Dallas County Community College District, this school offers associate’s degrees and certificates in Commercial Music and Recording Technology.
